The ancient city renowned as Fatehabad was constructed by Mughal emperor Akbar in 1570 in laurels of Sufi saint Shaikh Salim Chisti, who predicted the birth of his son who was named Prince Salim after him.

The first planned city of Mughal rule was also the first experiment of Mughal architecture with fusion of Indian, Persian and Islamic architectural elegance which served as the Mughal Empire’s capital bastion from 1571 to 1585. The architectural blend is a rich synthesis of Hindu and Jain craftsmanship bejeweled amidst hand in hand with Islamic elemental grace. The important buildings in this city are Buland Darwaza, Jama Maszid, Tomb of Salim Chisti, Ibadat Khana, Panch Mahal and Birbal’s house.
